Comprised of small to large companies founded by, in many cases, former band and choral directors, football coaches and teachers, the Association of Fundraising Distributors & Suppliers represented a big departure in my writing career. But led to a host of mind-blowing opportunities, including the development and execution of a Public Service Announcement starring Danny Glover. What a wild ride!  

Fundraising Safety PSA

The death of a young New Jersey boy killed after knocking on the wrong door while selling items for his school's fundraiser was a tragic and galvanizing moment for the product fundraising industry. Though discouraged by reputable companies, the practice of unsupervised door-to-door sales by children had to be stopped. Companies stepped up their warnings to parents, teachers and students. After an intensive fundraising drive among members, AFRDS produced this Public Service Announcement that aired 7,151 times on 110 stations in 71 markets and 36 states. Total audience/impressions: 22,174,279. The supporting radio PSA reached an audience of 15,294,000.  I hope the next time I have this opportunity that it is under much different circumstances.
